Skyline
Speedway Results June 20, 2008 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
By Scott Wolfe
STEWART, OHIO-With 104 cars in the pits, Skyline Speedway hosted another
great night of racing with local ace Tim Christopher of Belpre, Ohio
claiming the Four-Cylinder Invitational in a strong field of 28 cars.
Danny
Smith went six-for-six on Skyline runs in the sprint division, Tracy
Fritter
claimed his first Skyline Late Model main, Jeremy Berwanger claimed the
AMRA
Modified main, Brian Shaffer won the Pure Stocks, and Ron Pickens brought
home the mini-wedge main.
In the exciting $600 to win Four Cylinder invitational Tim Christopher
celebrated a big win over Portland, Ohio's Dennis Adkins. Christopher was
the rabbit and Adkins was the greyhound in hot pursuit. Bumper to bumper,
the duo put on a great show for the buzzing four-bangers. Through the
first
eight laps, the two were all alone out in front of the pack; however, by
the
ninth circuit the tandem ran hard upon a gaggle of lapped traffic.
Adkins was locked to Christopher's back bumper as they weaved through the
back-markers, then Christopher made some spine-tingling moves that shook
Adkins briefly. Adkins found another route and quickly closed the gap but
watched in front of him as Christopher posted the win.
Tommy Adkins blasted up to third place after a race-long battle with Shawn
McClain. Adkins won the battle with McClain edging Spike Rizer for fifth.
Coming off a short retirement was heat winner Rizer. Newcomers Zach Kisner
and Matt Fizer had good runs, while old-standby's George Klintworth and
Keith Young, and visiting Mitchell Eddy finished with strong top tens.
Rounding out the top ten behind McClain were Spike Rizer, Zach Kisner,
George Klintworth, Matt Fizer, Keith Young, and Mitchell Eddy. Mitchell
Eddy
flipped on the last lap after the checkered flag, but was not seriously
injured.
In the 25-lap sprint car main Danny Smith ran down early leader Josh Davis
on the sixth lap, then the pair ran nose-tail in a high-speed version of
cat-and-mouse. On the twelfth circuit Nick Naber in the B&J Contracting 22
bagged Davis for second, setting up a shootout to the finish as Wes
McLumphy
spun on the 16th round.
Naber took the lead momentarily, but Smith quickly reclaimed the top spot
with another test of nerves on the high side. Smith, one of the original
outlaws, is off to one of his best seasons ever. With the win in his Doug
Williams Logging entry, Smith proposed buying stock in a piece of Billy
Jarrell's Skyline clay. Cody Kinser was the hard charger in coming from
16th
to 8th. After a wall-climbing incident in the heat, Adam Strausser had a
good run from 19th to 11th in an equally good charge.
Naber brought home a strong second, while Josh Davis continues a banner
season, yet is still in search of his first win. Keith Baxter ironed out
the
wrinkles in Freddie Staats mount and brought home a top five with
youngster
Aaron Higgins. Behind second place Naber were Davis, Baxter, Higgins,
Cole
Duncan, Wayne McPeek, Cody Kinser, Greg Mitchell, and Dave Dickson.
The #59 Boss Chassis/Fast Jack Racing Engines/Fritter Logging entry was
the
"Boss" of the Late Model field. Defending champ Larry Bond and Todd Smith
paced the field to the green flag, however, Fritter made a hasty charge
into
second. Bond led the first five rounds, then engaged in a side-by-side
dual
with Tracy Fritter. Fritter finally bagged Bond for the lead, then checked
out on the rest of the field. Bond immediately found a new dance partner
and
locked horns with Travis Brookover, while Doug Dodd and Corey Conley went
two-wide for ten laps in a run for the top five. Jason Montgomery charged
from 12th to sixth, then began to work on Conley and Dodd.
Dodd blasted by the entire quartet for second, while Conley followed in
suit as Bond and Brookover shuffled to fifth and sixth. With two laps to
go
Montgomery charged by Conley for third, but time ran out with Fritter
bringing home his first Skyline win.
Fritter said, "We had a great car, a great track to race on and it went
green-to-checkered. We had fun-What more can you ask for? I'd like to
thank
my sponsors and crew for getting us here to victory lane."
Behind second place Dodd was Montgomery, Corey Conley, Travis Brookover,
K.C. Burdette, Larry Bond, Pat Gillian, Dan Morrison, and Chris Garnes.
Hard
charger of the race was Montgomery's 12th to 3rd place run.
In the AMRA Modified main Chris Stotts took the early lead and appeared to
be the class of the field. Then after an early tango with Louis Krushansky,
Jeremy Berwanger of Murray City took over second and set his sights on
Stotts. Berwanger closed rapidly on the early leader Stotts, then took the
lead on lap ten. He blitzed the rest of the field convincingly to claim
the
win. Berwanger bested a good field of AMRA hard-hitters that saw former
champ Kenny Johnson exit with a flat tire.
Rounding out the top ten behind winning Berwanger were Chris Stotts,
Jeremy
Blake, Louis Krushansky, Robbie Evans, Mike McPherson, Ryan Mayle, Jim
Ashcraft, Robin Ours, and Dusty Boley. McPherson came from 11th to sixth
to
earn hard-charger awards.
In the Pure Stock main Brian Shaffer took early command, but old-ironside
Jeremy Blake was rattling his hind quarters. Blake worked meticulously on
Shaffer for the top spot, but Shaffer would not yield and pulled first
into
victory lane. Blake sat comfortably in second ahead of Curt Reck, Dusty
Adkins, Mike Lauer, George Klintworth, Darin Roush, Joe Misel, Steve
Anthony, Chad Roush, and Pat McPeek.
In the Norman's Auto Care trophy-sponsored Mini-Wedges Ron Pickens took
advantage of a skirmish between Scott Perine and Kyle Bond. Pickens went
on
to win over Mariah Miller, Tyler Evans, Kyle Bond, Zach Fox, Martin
Gibson,
Scott Perine, Coleman Evans, and Sydney Staats.
Skyline hosts the All-Star Sprints in an Ohio Speedweek show Wednesday,
June 25. The Southeastern Ohio track then hosts a $2,000 to win late
model
show on Friday, June 27. AMRA Modifieds, Pure Stocks, Four Cylinders, and
Mini-Wedges will be on the racing cards as well. There will be no sprints
June 27 in honor of the remaining Speedweek races.
