N.H.R.A. FINISH LINE PREVIEW
This time out we bring you the results of the running of the 2nd
Annual Summit Racing Equipment N.H.R.A. Nationals being held
June 26th-29th, 2008
at Summit Racing Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio.
It’s actually a race within a race as we also contest the K &
N Horsepower Challenge for the Pro Stock Class. The Challenge is
determined from the top eight points earners in the class over the past
year beginning with the running of the Summit Racing Nationals and ending
with the running of the N.H.R.A. Supernationals. The Challenge is held
during qualifying on Saturday. To the winning team goes a check in the
amount of $50,000.00 and should that team win the event on Sunday, N.H.R.A.
will award that team with an additional check in the amount of $25,000.00.
Your drivers for this year are; 8) Ron Krisher-2,620-pts. 7) Warren
Johnson-2,770-pts. 6) Dave Connolly-2,925-pts. 5) Jeg Coughlin-3,105-pts.
4) Jason Line-3,245-pts. 3) Kurt Johnson-3,330-pts. 2) Allen
Johnson-3,415-pts. and 1) Greg Anderson-3,600-pts.
In qualifying on Friday we only managed to get the First Round
of Pro Stock Bike in as it was found that there was water seeping up
through the track on the top end. The area has been hit with over 12” of
rain in the last few weeks. The N.H.R.A. Safety Safari, track personal,
and even some races tried unsuccessfully to dig drainage ditches to
correct the problem.
Come Saturday and the seeping problem seemed to be corrected,
but Mother Nature stepped in again and gave us some rain showers. We did
manage to get the qualifying in and the fields set for Sunday. There were
no new Track Records established.
The K & N Horsepower Challenge was held and the winner was
Allen Johnson who cut 0.000 light hole shot and ran a 6.725 E.T. at
204.91-mph to defeat Greg Anderson with a 6.717 E.T. at 204.91-mph. This
is the first time MOPAR has won the Challenge in 17-years as driver
Darrell Alderman collected the trophy back then.
Race day and we have partly sunny skies and with the teams
only getting two qualifying runs yesterday this will make it a crew chiefs
race today. Mother Nature stepped in and we did have about a 15-minute
delay during the First Round, but we go back after it and got the race
completed. We had our usual upsets, disappointments and we had a first
time winner in the Pro Stock Bike category. One disappointment was that
Pro Stock driver Allen Johnson was unable to get the double-up win today.

This was the 12th stop on the POWERade Championship
Series and the half way point to the championship.
It was a very emotional event in that it was a gratifying day
to have Team Kalitta return to racing after their loss just last week. The
Top Fuel Final was emotional also as driver Doug Herbert collected his
first win since the loss of his two sons back in January. Doug stated
“This is for my boys and I know they’re up there talking to Scott.” Our
prayers and thoughts continue to go out to both teams and their families.
We would like to give a BIG THANK YOU to all the fans for
sticking with us and getting to see some fantastic racing as always. We
would like to give a HUGE THANK YOU to the N.H.R.A. Safety Safari, the
Bader family and all those that helped us get this race in.
We have next weekend off but please join us
July 11th-13th, 2008
for the running of the 29th Annual MOPAR Mile-High N.H.R.A.
Nationals being held at Bandimere Speedway in Morrison, Colorado which is
just West of Denver. This is the start of the Western Swing with three
races in as many weeks.
Have a safe and happy July 4th weekend and we hope
to see you at Bandimere Speedway!
