in World Series Finale
Concord,

Tony Veneziano, World of Outlaws PR Director
Less than a week after claiming a
$50,000 triumph in Australia, two-time defending Advance Auto Parts
World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion Donny Schatz was back in
Victory Lane in a big money event down under. He was victorious in
the season finale for the Wanless World Series Sprint cars on
Saturday night at Titan Garages Brisbane International Speedway to
take home $20,000.
Schatz lined up ninth for the special
50-lap A-Feature and quickly started his charge to the front. He
picked up three spots in the first three laps, before chasing down
Brooke Tatnell to move into the Top-Five on the sixth circuit.
A red flag on the eighth lap that
ended the night for a number of the front runners moved Schatz into
the third spot. At the drop of the green, he began to track down
Andrew Scheuerle, who was running second to leader Daryn Pittman.
Pittman, who finished fifth on Friday
night in the preliminary feature, took the lead on the fifth lap
after starting on the outside of the front row. The native of
Owasso, Oklahoma, who won six times with the World of Outlaws in
2007, was victorious at Brisbane International Speedway on December
26.
It took Schatz just two laps to work
his way around Scheuerle and set his sights on Pittman. After
running side-by-side for a couple of laps, Schatz powered his way
around Pittman on the 18th lap and opened a commanding
lead, that he would not relinquish the rest of the way. When the
checkered flag waved, the native of North Dakota was over three
seconds ahead of Pittman who wound up second.
Schatz has won five of his last seven
starts in Australia over the last three weeks.
Tatnell, who won with the World of
Outlaws at Skagit Speedway in Washington in 2007,finished fifth on
Saturday night to wrap up his sixth World Series title.
In preliminary action on Saturday
night, Schatz finished fifth in the first heat race, while Pittman
was sixth in the third heat. In the first dash, Schatz was fifth to
earn the ninth starting spot in the A-Feature, with Pittman winning
the second dash to earn the outside front row starting position for
the50-lap event.
Schatz will return to action in
Australia on Thursday night at Tyrepower Parramatta City Raceway
against a number of fellow World of Outlaws drivers, while Pittman
will return to the United States to make final preparations for the
2008 World of Outlaws season.
The 30th anniversary
Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series season begins
on February 8, 2008 with the 37thAnnual Florida DIRTcar
