Chad Smith Storms to Carpet Outlet
Firestom Victory at Brushcreek Motorsports
(Peebles, Ohio) Late afternoon showers Thursday July 3,
forced officials to postpone the Carpet Outlet Firestorm festivities at
the 1/3 mile speed plant until Saturday July 6. Race fans and race teams
were treated to a warm and dry Saturday allowing officials to get the
track prepped for the evenings festivities. As the warm afternoon sun
faded into the night action heated up on the track and fireworks filled
the sky. Dayton Ohio's Chad Smith stormed to the front of the class
picking up his first Brushcreek Motorsports late model feature win.
Sardina, Ohio's Weasel Rhoads picked up another modified feature win.
Peebles Ohio's Tom Partin picked up the legend feature win. Laurelville,
Ohio's Jamey Adams Picked up the bomber feature win. While Oak Hills
Ohio's Mike Stickland took the chevette/ 4 cylinder feature win, Peebles
Ohio's Matt Nichols picked up another trophy 4 cylinder dash and Kyle
Purdy won the enduro race.
Dayton, Ohio's Chad Smith and Peebles, Ohio's Clint Jamison brought the
late model feature field to the green. The field shot into turn one with
Smith emerging with a slight lead over Jamison, Marty Huntley, Chris
Shannon, and Brandon Webber. As the group powered down the back stretch
Smith opened up a four car length lead over Jamison. Smith would catch the
rear of the field on lap five. While trying to avoid going a lap down E.J.
Hanneken would make contact with the leader Smith sending Smith spinning
in turn four, bringing out the caution. Hanneken was charged with the
caution and leader Smith resumed the point for the restart. On the
restart, Smith shot into turn one with Jamison and Huntley in tow. As the
trio worked down the back stretch Smith began to stretch his lead, pulling
to five car lengths over Jamison and Huntley. The action was slowed with a
lap seven caution when Huntley spun in turn four. The running order was
now Smith, Jamison, Shannon, Mark Morrison, and Brandon Webber. Huntley
would have to restart eighteenth after being charged with the caution. On
the restart, Smith shot into turn one with Jamison in tow. Smith powered
down the back stretch with Jamison at his rear deck lead. The two ran nose
to tail as they came by the flag stand to complete lap eight. Over the
next two circuits Smith began to stretch his lead over Jamison and held a
four car length lead when the action was slowed with a lap eleven caution
for Cody Enlow. On the restart, Smith once again shot into turn one with
Jamison in tow. Smith began to stretch his lead when the action was slowed
with a lap fourteen caution when Brian Day looped his mount in turn two.
The action was slowed for the final time when a caution waved for Brandon
Webber setting up a green, white, checkered finish. Smith held on to pick
up his first Brushcreek Motorsports feature win. Following Smith across
the line was Clint Jamison, Marty Huntley, Mark Morrison, and Chris
Shannon rounding out the top five.
Peebles Ohio's Mike Gross and Sardina Ohio's Weasel Rhoads brought the
modified feature field to the green. The field shot into turn one with
Rhoads emerging at the point. Rhoads had began to stretch his lead when
the action was slowed with a lap four caution for Dave Pinkerton who had
slowed on the front stretch with mechanical problems. On the restart,
Rhoads emerged from turn one with a slight lead over Mike Gross. The rest
of the race would go caution free with Rhoads cruising to the feature win.
Following Rhoads across the line was Mike Gross, Chris Shelton, Dave
Jamison, and Tommy Riggs rounding out the top five.
Steven Partin and Matt Nichols brought the legend feature field to the
green. The field shot into turn one with Nichols emerging as the race
leader. Nichols held the lead until John Gutman shot to the front on lap
two. Gutman held the point for the next seven circuits. Tom Partin scooted
by Gutman on lap nine to claim the lead. Partin held the point when the
race was slowed with a lap thirteen caution for Kevin Schoonover. On the
restart, Partin emerged from turn one with the lead over Gutman, Steven
Partin, Matt Nichols, and Randy Hunt. Partin held on over the final two
circuits to pick up the feature win. Following Partin across the line were
John Gutman, Matt Nichols, Randy Hunt, and Gary Rowland rounding out the
top five.
Jamey Adams and Aaron Chesser brought the bomber feature field to the
green. The field shot into turn one with Adams emerging at the point.
Adams worked down the back stretch with Chesser, Jim Hilterbran, Shane
Newman, and Tommy Mossbarger in tow. As Adams began to stretch his lead
over Chesser, sixth starting Mossbarger began to make his move working his
way to third on lap six. The action was slowed with a caution when Rob
Smith spun in turn four. Over the final two laps Mossbarger found his way
to second with Jamey Adams holding on for the win. Following Adams and
Mossbarger across the line was Jim Hilterbran, Shane Newman, and Mark
Keatzel rounding out the top five.
Josh Francis and Kevin Mckenzie brought the chevette/4 cylinder feature
field to the green. The field shot into turn one with McKenzie emerging
with the lead. McKenzie lead the first lap with Francis fighting back to
claim the top spot on lap two. Sixth starting Mike Strickland slid by
Francis to claim the point on lap three. The action was slowed with a lap
five caution when Dean Elliot spun his mount in turn three. Mike Stickland
held the point over the last three circuits to pick up the feature win.
Following Stickland across the line was Kevin Mckenzie, Josh Francis, Eric
Dearing, and Nick Hodges rounding out the top five.
Action returns to the 1/3 mile speed plant on Saturday July 12 with a
