Mark Pfiefer Claims '08 Fastor Pastor Title at
Brushcreek Motorsports
(Peebles, Ohio) Evening showers lasting into Friday night
left some questioning the prospects for Saturday night's races. However,
the Peebles area was treated to a warm dry Saturday morning allowing the
staff at Brushcreek Motorsports Complex to get the track prepared for the
fifth annual Jesus Motorsports Outreach Faster Pastor race. While fans
were treated to the usual thrills and spills of Saturday night short track
racing, they were also treated to some special activities as part of
Faster Pastor night. Racers in Christ provided a pre race concert by Joy
Dillow and inflatables for the kids. Other special activities included
Jesus Motorsports Outreach & Rick Combs Racing bicycle give-aways and the
kids had the opportunity to take a bus ride around the track.
Winchester, Ohio's Scott Edmisten picked up the late model feature win.
Sardina, Ohio's Weasel Rhoads pick up the modified feature win in the Joey
Stricker owned Pierce Chassis. Winchester, Ohio's John Gutman picked up
another legend feature win, running his streak to four in a row. Shane
Newman picked up the bomber feature win. West Union, Ohio's Josh Francis
picked up the chevette/4 cylinder feature win. While Peebles, Ohio's Matt
Nichols picked up another trophy 4 cylinder win and West Union, Ohio's
Brandon Hopkins took the enduro win. Mark Pfiefer of Open Door Church
Chillicothe, Ohio claimed the 2008 Faster Pastor title.
On a typical Sunday morning, area pastors can be found preaching the
bible to their congregations, but on Saturday June 14th many of them
traded their pulpit for a drivers seat in the fifth annual Jesus
Motorsports Outreach Faster Pastor Race. Defending "faster pastor" Boyd
Young's reign would be in question early, when he suffered mechanical
problems during hot laps. However, Young would quickly find a new ride for
the fifth annual faster pastor race. Young's new ride gave him hopes of
defending his '07 faster pastor title, but ten other area pastors entered
the race with their own hopes of being crowned the 2008 faster pastor.
Mark Pfiefer wowed the large crowd slicing and dicing through the faster
pastor field to pick up the win, securing the 2008 "Faster Pastor" title.
While Mark Pfiefer picked up the feature win, the real winners were each
participating church's youth group. A portion of every ticket sold by a
participating church went to the church's youth group.
Brandon Webber and Scott Edmisten brought the late model feature field
to the green. Edmisten jumped out to the lead only to have the action
slowed with a caution for E.J. Hanneken before the first lap was complete.
The field was quickly realigned for a complete restart. At the drop of the
green Edmisten once again jumped out to the lead before another quick
caution slowed the action. With the field realigned for another complete
restart, Edmisten emerged from turn one with the lead over Webber, Weasel
Rhoads, Terry Smart, and Butch Dowdy. As the leaders came through turn
four the red flag was waved when Josh Burton's mount flipped landing on
it's top in turn three. EMT's worked to extract Burton from the car after
it was turned back on it's wheels. An alert and conscious Burton was
transported to Adams County Hospital to be checked out. (No further
updates were available before press time). While the track crew worked to
clean up the wreck in turn three disaster struck for the points lead Clint
Jamison and last week's feature winner Butch Dowdy. Both had to be pushed
pit side with mechanical problems before the feature event was officially
under way. On the restart, Edmisten jumped out to the lead over Webber,
Mark Morrison, Weasel Rhoads, and Terry Smart. Edmisten stretched his lead
until the action was slowed with a lap ten caution when Brandon Webber
spun in turn two. On the restart, Edmisten pulled to a three car length
lead over Terry Smart, Mark Morrison, Chris Shannon and Jonathan Day.
Edmisten continued to stretch his lead over the next ten circuits cruising
to the feature win. Following Edmisten across the line was Terry Smart,
Mark Morrison, Brandon Webber, and Chris Shannon rounding out the top
five.
Brian Whiteman and Weasel Rhoads brought the modified feature field to
the green. Whiteman jumped out to the early lead, followed closely by
Rhoads, Dave Jamison and Mike Gross. Rhoads slid by Whiteman to claim the
point on the third circuit. As Rhoads held the point, Jamison hounded
Whiteman for second before finally sliding by on lap six. Now in second,
Jamison would set his eyes on front runner Rhoads, while Whiteman and
Gross battled for third. As the front runners approached lapped traffic
Rhoads began stretching his lead over Jamison, Whiteman, and Gross. Gross
slid by Whiteman for third place on lap twelve. Over the next two circuits
Jamison began to cut into Rhoads lead only to have Rhoads run his fastest
lap on the final lap in route to the feature win. Following Rhoads and
Jamison Across the line were Mike Gross, Brian Whiteman, and Brad White
rounding out the top five.
Tom Partin and John Gutman brought the legend feature field to the
green. As the two shot into turn one Partin emerged with the advantage
over Gutman, Pierce Foster, Matt Nichols, and Gary Rowland. Gutman slid by
Partin on the next circuit to claim the point. Gutman continued to hold
the lead over Partin when the action was slowed with a lap 5 caution. On
the restart, Gutman shot through turn one with Partin in tow. Partin made
several attempts to claim the top spot over the next three laps, pulling
along side Gutman, but was unable to complete the pass. Partin would
regroup and make another run at Gutman, but Gutman was up to the task
holding of Partin to take the legend feature win. Following Gutman and
Partin across the line were Tony Steffen, Matt Nichols, and Pierce Foster
rounding out the top five.
Shane Newman and Joe Buskirk brought the bomber feature field to the
lead. Newman jumped out to the early lead over Buskirk, Mark Keatzel, Mike
Brust, Larry Highland and Matt Edmisten. The action was slowed with an
early caution for Matt Edmisten who rolled to a stop on the front stretch.
On the restart, Newman jumped out to the lead over Buskirk, Mark Keatzel,
Mike Brust, Larry Highland and Tim Cutler. Newman continued to stretch his
lead as the laps wound down, cruising to the feature win. Following
Newman across the line was Joe Buskirk, Mike Brust, Larry Highland, and
Mark Keatzel rounding out the top five.

feature field to the green. Strickland jumped out to the early lead. over
Randy Johnson, Chris Vance, Matt Nichols and Nick Hodges. Strickland held
the point for the first three circuits. Francis was able to power by
Strickland on the back stretch on lap four. Francis maintained a two car
length lead over Strickland over the final few laps to pick up the
chevette/4 cylinder. Following Francis and Strickland across the line were
Matt Nichols, Gary Rowland, and Matt Hodges rounding out the top five.
